BreathingBooks — Taking a medieval prison as inspiration for the identity of a human library.

Project information

Envision you go into a library, but there are no books. Instead, humans act as "books "to share their stories and experiences with others. The idea is to promote understanding and empathy between people from different backgrounds.

In reimagining the medieval prison of Freising in Bavaria, Germany, my vision was to harmonize its historical charm with the concept of a human library — an inviting haven for individuals to share their narratives. I delved into medieval tile patterns to capture the era's essence, infusing them with a modern flair.

A luminous and uplifting color palette was selected to evoke a sense of vibrancy, flooding the space with warmth and brightness to support the feeling of well-being of every book and visitor. The interplays of hues and patterns represent the uniqueness and diversity within every human soul.
